Producer and DJ based in Toulouse, RawDAS moves between deep house, techno and, increasingly, organic and afro house — a sound still being shaped, chasing warmth, light and room to move. These days it’s less about individual artists than about labels: the melodic warmth of Keinemusik and All Day I Dream, the driving techno of Drumcode, the Diynamic-adjacent sound of Solomun and Stimming — a search for an imprint that holds together, rather than a single hit.

The name fuses first name and surname into something that reads two ways at once — an exclamation, and a German word. “Raw” is the unfiltered honesty behind every track; “DAS” nods to a lasting pull toward German electronic music. It replaced an earlier alias, Romain D., marking a shift toward something more deliberate.

That German pull runs deep, from the early-2000s French electro-house of David Guetta and Bob Sinclar through the tech-house of Sébastien Léger and Eric Prydz to the minimal, architectural sound of Booka Shade, Kollektiv Turmstrasse and Paul Kalkbrenner — the real reference point, still shaping a rhythm-first way of writing. A night at Tresor, in Berlin, meant to be a quick visit with friends unfamiliar with the place, turned into staying until 6am — still gives goosebumps thinking back on it. Afro-tinged, percussive tracks kept surfacing even through that darker period, the same current now driving the move toward organic and afro house.

In the studio, rhythm comes first, almost always; melody is the harder discipline, actively being worked on. The real challenge is keeping technique from getting ahead of feeling. Behind the decks, RawDAS plays out rarely and prefers staying in the background — providing the atmosphere of a room rather than its center. Behind the DAW, it’s the opposite: fully absorbed, alone with the work.

What’s ahead is less a new name than a fuller sound — richer, warmer, more recognizably its own.
