Full disclosure, right at the top: there is no Jason Festival. I mocked up that entire lineup poster myself, just for fun — the stage, the sponsors, the fake headliners, all of it. It’s not a cover-up, it’s the whole joke.
Here’s what actually happened. Modlight — a longtime friend who works in event production — and I got together at his place to mix, just the two of us. He’d just gotten his hands on a brand new Vestax PMC-580 Pro, and we had two CDJ-2000 Nexus set up, so we figured we’d put the new gear through its paces. We ran through every effect on that mixer, dug out our old CD compilations, cracked open a Smirnoff Ice — the exact drink we used to have when we first started mixing together as teenagers — and just had fun with it.
No stage, no crowd, no real festival. Just two friends, way too much gear, and a callback to where all of this started for both of us.
The music, though, is completely real. This is a proper set, recorded live in that room.
